A blood test for hemoglobin is a blood test to determine the level of hemoglobin in the blood.
Hemoglobin is the most important element of blood, an iron-containing protein and the main component of erythrocytes. It is hemoglobin that colors the blood red. It has the ability to capture oxygen and transport it to the organs. Without hemoglobin, normal saturation of tissues with oxygen would be impossible, which affects many metabolic processes in the body. With a lack of hemoglobin in the blood, the disease of anemia (anemia) develops.
What are the indications for analysis?
- diagnosis of diseases and treatment results, control of metabolic processes in the body;
- before using a number of drugs;
- the entire period of pregnancy;
- diabetes (analysis for glycosylated hemoglobin).
How to prepare for the analysis?
It is recommended to test the level of hemoglobin in the blood in the morning, preferably on an empty stomach (it is not recommended to eat 6-8 hours before the test). As an exception, the child can be given to drink water. Before the analysis, you should get a good night's sleep, physical exertion is prohibited.
For glycosylated hemoglobin, blood is taken from a vein, for a hemoglobin test, it is possible to take blood from a finger. If the child has a fear of blood, dizziness occurs, it is necessary to warn the medical staff ( pediatrician ).
It is contraindicated to carry out the analysis during a stressful situation or severe fatigue. Against the background of the inflammatory process in the body, the result of the hemoglobin test may be temporarily distorted.
