Blood glucose is a test that shows the sugar content in the blood. This is a vital indicator, because glucose is the main source of energy consumed by the body (due to the oxidation of glucose, we get more than half of the energy we need).
The level of sugar in the blood is regulated by insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas. With age, due to a decrease in the sensitivity of tissues to insulin (due to the death of part of the insulin receptors or their loss of sensitivity), the level of sugar in the blood increases.
This test can be ordered by doctors such as a general practitioner, endocrinologist, cardiologist, pediatrician , or gastroenterologist to diagnose diabetes, control sugar levels, and assess general health.
What are the indications for analysis?

- Screening, diagnosis and monitoring of diabetes treatment
- With loss of consciousness or general weakness and other symptoms of hypoglycemia
- Screening examination of pregnant women
How to prepare for the analysis?
The preparation consists in the fact that the analysis is given on an empty stomach (not eating for 8 to 12 hours), preferably in the morning (before 11 am). The day before, you can't drink alcohol, fatty and fried food.
On the day of the analysis, you should give up smoking, avoid stress and physical exertion.
