What you need to know about analysis
Demodex scraping is a test that helps diagnose the presence of Demodex mites in the skin of the face and eyelashes. This examination is recommended by a dermatologist at the first suspicion of Demodex.
Features of the demodex analysis: the procedure is painless. Using a sterile surgical scalpel, the doctor scrapes off particles of the affected skin and the contents of the rashes. After that, the particles are placed on a laboratory glass, diluted with an alkaline solution. For laboratory diagnostics of demodicosis, the tape test method is also used - tape is glued to the skin at night, and in the morning it is removed and glued to a glass slide. The demodex mite is visible immediately under a microscope, so the results can be obtained quite quickly.
This test can be prescribed by a dermatologist, cosmetologist, therapist, or pediatrician . If demodicosis is suspected, the test helps confirm the diagnosis and prescribe treatment.
What are the indications for analysis?
- For an accurate diagnosis of demodicosis
- Increased sebum secretion, acne breakouts
- Redness, peeling and/or itching of the skin of the face
- Itching and peeling in the eye area, recurring eye disease
How to prepare for the analysis?
There is no special preparation for scraping. For a week, you should abandon the use of decorative cosmetics and ointments, which can affect the results of the study.
The day before the study is not recommended:
- carry out thorough cleaning;
- scrubbing the affected areas of the skin.
