Ultrasound of the brain (neurosonography) is a study that is carried out in the presence of an open parietal lobe in an infant. It provides an opportunity to obtain and evaluate data on the functioning of the brain, as well as other structures located in the skull. Also, neurosonography allows identifying the development of abnormalities in the structure of the brain in children, even newborns. During the examination, the doctor can assess the size of all areas of the brain, the presence of congenital defects. Ultrasound of the brain is performed only for children up to one year old, until the crown of the head has grown. Sometimes it is possible to do it a little later through some areas of the bones of the skull, where they are thinner and pass ultrasound waves, but in this case the structures of the brain are visible much worse. It is possible to perform neurosonography for children in order to monitor the state of the brain, the effectiveness of therapy (if necessary) with an interval of 1-1.5 months. It is recommended to conduct at least one ultrasound of the brain for children under one year of age to rule out the presence of congenital anomalies.

  • Indications for research

    • premature children;
    • children with abnormalities of intrauterine development;
    • children who experienced intrauterine oxygen starvation;
    • children with suspicion of intrauterine infection;
    • children with birth trauma;
    • children with neurological disorders;
    • children with an unusual head shape;
    • children with an unusual facial structure;
    • diseases of other organs and systems.

  • Preparation for brain research

    The study does not require special preparation, the baby should be calm. The procedure is simple, has no contraindications and is completely painless, so it can be performed on a child even in his sleep.
