The vaccine CERVARIX™ is indicated for intramuscular injection in the area of the deltoid muscle.

  • What are the indications for Cervarix vaccine?

    CERVARIX™ vaccine is indicated for the prevention of persistent infection, precancerous lesions (cervix, vulvar, and vaginal), and cervical cancer caused by certain oncogenic types of human papillomavirus (HPV) in girls and women starting at age 9 years.

  • What are the contraindications to the Cervarix vaccine?

    CERVARIX™ cannot be prescribed to persons with known hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any component of the vaccine. Severe complications from the previous dose of CERVARIX™ vaccine in the form of an anaphylactic reaction.

    Administration of CERVARIX™ vaccine should be delayed in individuals with fever. However, the presence of minor infections, such as a cold, should not lead to postponing vaccination.

  • What are the side effects of the Cervarix vaccine?

    Among the most common:

    • pain or discomfort at the injection site;
    • redness or swelling at the injection site;
    • headache;
    • muscle pain, soreness or muscle weakness (not caused by physical exertion);
    • fatigue.

    Also common, but occur less often:

    • gastrointestinal complaints, including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain;
    • itching, redness, urticaria;
    • arthralgia;
    • fever (≥ 38 °C).
